Tooth colored fillings are called Composites. They are fillings that are designed to match the color of your teeth. They may be used to restore a decayed tooth or repair a defect. Composites are often used on front teeth where a natural appearance is important, but they may be used on back teeth as well. Composites are much more cosmetically pleasing than the old silver amalgams. Composites can be prepared and placed in one visit. The dentist uses a very mild acid solution to “etch” the tooth surface. A bonding agent is then applied and a special light is used to chemically harden the filling. Tooth colored fillings have become the filling of choice for most dentists and the filling that is preferred by patients.
