Replace mercury fillings with composite

Which would YOU choose?

Composite (white) fillings are an attractive, durable alternative to almalgam (silver fillings). While silver fillings contain the harmful toxic substance mercury, white fillings are mercury free and blend in seamlessly making them very natural and attractive. The life span of a composite filling is usually 7-10 years.

Interesting fact:

The U. S. government has banned mercury in pesticides and interior paint, but not in dental fillings.

While there’s controversy about the possible health consequences of mercury filling (read this article on Wikipedia), one thing’s certain: new materials and technologies allow me to replace old mercury fillings in a way that looks completely natural and healthy.

Tooth colored fillings are called Composites.  They are fillings that are designed to match the color of your teeth.  They may be used to restore a decayed tooth or repair a defect.  Composites are often used on front teeth where a natural appearance is important, but they may be used on back teeth as well.  Composites are much more cosmetically pleasing than the old silver amalgams.  Composites can be prepared and placed in one visit.  The dentist uses a very mild acid solution to “etch”  the tooth surface.  A bonding agent is then applied and a special light is used to chemically harden the filling.  Tooth colored fillings have become the filling of choice for most dentists and the filling that is preferred by patients.
